Cost-Saving Reorganization Reduces Housing Authority Staff

Following an in-depth financial review, Northwest Georgia Housing Authority (NWGHA) has implemented cost-saving measures to address budget shortfalls and align expenses with current revenues.

Cost-saving measures include reorganization of NWGHA departments, prompting a reduction in the agency's workforce.

Staff members affected by the workforce reduction received notification of their eliminated positions effective May 23, 2025.

Implementation of these cost-saving measures will allow Northwest Georgia Housing Authority to continue its mission to provide decent, safe, and sanitary housing for eligible families, and to promote self-sufficiency and economic independence for its residents; to establish drug and crime free communities; and to assure fiscal integrity in all programs administered by NWGHA without discrimination.

"This decision is not a reflection of your performance but is a result of challenging financial circumstances requiring difficult choices. We are appreciative of your contributions and dedication during your time with NWGHA," stated Justin Jones, NWGHA Executive Director/CEO in the official notice to former staff members.

Severance will be provided to the former NWGHA staff members in the amount of one month's compensation at the employee's current hourly rate or wage. Additional information will be provided to the former employees by NWGHA's insurance carrier or third-party administrator regarding their rights to continued insurance coverage under COBRA guidelines, available at the former employee's expense.

Founded in 1937, Northwest Georgia Housing Authority provides housing to residents of Rome, Cave Springs, and Rockmart, Georgia through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Programs. NWGHA manages voucher programs for families, veterans, and the non-elderly disabled throughout Floyd and Polk Counties. In addition to providing numerous programs and services for its residents, NWGHA operates three non-profit organizations: Appalachian Housing & Redevelopment Corporation, Three Rivers Housing & Development Corporation, and NWGHA Resident Council.
