FSS and WOIA Graduates
NWGHA Family Self-Sufficiency Program Launches Healthcare Education Program for Residents
The Northwest Georgia Housing Authority (NWGHA), in partnership with the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Program (WIOA), proudly announces the recent graduation of (4) four NWGHA Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) participants. The FSS participants graduated from Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC), Accelerated Certified Nursing Assistant Program. The pilot program initiated by NWGHA offers residents an opportunity to receive free education using braided funding from both NWGHA and the (WIOA). Braided funding combines multiple funding streams to support a single project or program while maintaining each funding source's separate identities and reporting requirements. Braiding funding is a valuable strategy for organizations seeking to leverage diverse funding sources and achieve their program goals more effectively.
In addition to paid tuition, the graduates received funding for immunizations, uniforms, shoes, background and drug screening, CPR and liability insurance, books, graduation fees, graduation attire, state examination fees, as well as transportation and childcare assistance. NWGHA plans to offer the program to a host of residents, leveraging education as a pathway out of poverty.
The Family Self-Sufficiency Program is a federal asset-building program designed to encourage employment. The FSS Program was established to help families in public housing, and the Housing Choice Voucher Program to become self-sufficient through referrals to education, training, case management, and other supportive services.
Northwest Georgia Regional Commission Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Program (WIOA) creates pathways to success through education, training, and employment opportunities by providing youth services, adult services, and business services.
